What If?

What if Jordan Hicks lives up to his injury plagued reputation and goes down during the season?

If that happens, then the Eagles defense is screwed.

Seen as though everyone seemed to freak out a bit when Hicksinjured‘ his hand on holiday recently (see here) I thought I’d take a look at what could happen to this Eagles team without him.

Hicks is the glue, he’s the engine room, he’s the Mufasa of the whole Defense, and without him, the whole thing could crumble, and here’s why.

Hicks is one of the NFL’s most underappreciated players, and currently playing at HOF pace, as pointed out here by Bleeding Green Nation’s Brandon Lee Gowton.

Now I’m definitely not saying Hicks is a sure fire HOF’er but I am saying without his productivity in the middle of the Defense, this Eagles team could perform drastically worse. With Nigel Bradham the only other Linebacker on the roster worthy of a starting place, this after Mychal Kendricks has gone from being ‘the next big thing‘ to being potentially cut worthy (if it wasnt for his contract). After that there’s Najee Goode, who’s a career backup, along with the unproven Joe Walker and Nathan Gerry and Special Teamer Kamu Grugier-Hill.

So if Hicks went down, this Defense could be in trouble, especially as Nigel Bradham could still be punished for his off the field actions (see more here). There’s no way the Eagles can afford for Hicks to go down.

I honestly think the Eagles could lose as many as 4 games extra just due to losing Hicks and/or Bradham. So maybe bringing in a veterain backup such as Perry Riley or DeAndre Levy would be a smart short-term move and not just relying on late round picks such as Gerry or Walker becoming unrealistically good.

So let’s all just pray that everything in Hicks’ body is 100% healthy, 100% of the time, surely thats not too much to ask?

Oh and Jordan, no more holidays to Greece buddy. Thanks.

‘Till next time.
