With pre-season officially starting for the Eagles this weekend and with Training Camp well and truly underway. I thought it’s about time we look at who I think will be apart of the 53 man-squad come the regular season.
Quarterback – Carson Wentz, Nick (27-2) Foles (2)
Both of these are obvious, the only thing that could change is if Foles stinks hard in pre-season and Matt McGloin shows he’s competent.
Running Back – LeGarrette Blount, Darren Sproles, Wendell Smallwood, Donnel Pumphrey (4)
Another position which is pretty much locked. Corey Clement having an awesome pre-season could possibly change that but even if that did happen I just can’t see space for him.
Wide Receiver – Alshon Jeffery, Torrey Smith, Jordan Matthews (barring trade), Nelson Agholor, Mack Hollins, Marcus Johnson, Greg Ward (if Matthews traded) (6)
The Eagles suddenly seem very deep at receiver, with the arrival of Jeffery and Smith as well as Agholor finally looking like he could be something, there’s been a lot of chatter about Matthews being traded before the start of the season something that would have seemed ludicrous last season when Matthews was the only reciever able to catch a ball.
If Matthews does get traded then the Eagles will keep Greg Ward, who by all accounts has had an outstanding training camp.
Tight End – Zach Ertz, Trey Burton, Brent Celek, Billy Brown (4)
I think the Eagles will keep four tight ends this year purely based on how good Brown has looked in Training Camp, if he stinks it up in pre-season games, then its the usual Ertz, Burton and Celek combo, but right now, I think Brown has have done enough.
Offensive Line – Jason Peters, Ike Seumalo, Jason Kelce, Brandon Brooks, Lane Johnson, Stefen Wisniewski, Halapoulivaati Vaitai, Chance Warmack, Dillon Gordon (9)
The only potential for change is if the Eagles feel the need to stash rookie center Tyler Orlosky on the roster in fear they may lose him before they get the chance to put him on the practice squad. Otherwise this group is set.
Come back next week for the Defense Edition.
‘Till next time.
